Welcome to Newport Living and Lifestyles
and Travel Tuesdays
brought to you by
B&B Yacht Charters, Inc.
with President and co-host
Jennifer Saia aka @YachtQueen
That’s me! Hi everybody!
Today we have Captain Brad Baker of Motor Yacht Rena
An incredible program that we have been doing for many many years together
Captain Brad, why don’t you tell us a little bit about your vessel.
Well okay, she’s an NQEA built in Cairns, Australia, which is my hometown for many years.
She just turned 30 years old.
She’s a Leeuwin class. We just did our 30 year survey last year.
She has just come out of the shipyard with a lot of love.
She has five state rooms
10 guests, we can accommodate more guests if needed, with pullmans, without her sinking.
She comes with a toe tender 38 foot ripper that we love to use. We call it the Limo
Tender, jet ski’s, stand-up paddles, kayaks
All things that you could want for a charter vacation in the Bahamas
Sounds like an amazing fun wealth of activities to do.
Where your favorite places to travel?
We do love the Bahamas especially for chartering. Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Maine
We like a different type of experience.
Very pleasurable, very scenic.
That sounds fun and
Jennifer tells me that you guys put up an amazing beach picnic!
Yes! we do, we cater that to wherever we are.
I got my secret beach in the Bahamas which I will not divulge
Come on give me the Lat/Long (Latitude/Longitude)
It’s a hell of a day for the guests. It’s special.
We cater lunch to the local seafood and keep the local cuisine in mind
Make it fun for everybody.
yeah and you can customize the lunches with a pig roast and other things
Depends on the island and where we are
We try to source the local product and stick with the local fare if we can.
Or go catch it yourself please
Yes! hahaha
We have a wonderful barbecue on the top deck and
we’ve got more than one crew member on board who is a master at grilling.
We like barbecuing. I won’t say that I am good at it!
But anyway, I have people for that! and we like to make it part of the experience.
Speaking of crew, how many crew are you?
We are 8 crew, more than enough!
It looks beautiful and quite elegant.
I call it Nantucket chic!
I’s kind of a New England sort of flair interior and
the owners are from that area and it reflects their taste and style.
It’s such a more traditional style.
We keep the furnishings refreshed on classic feel and style.
Everyone’s keeping healthy and busy.
We are all good and ready to go for the summer.
Jennifer, you are in Florida right now
How would you describe the boat and the crew?
I’m going to be having lunch in a few minutes with everybody,
so then I’ll have a real good description!
But just being back on board after not seeing them for so long
oh my gosh like a year.
I feel like I’m at home
The owners treat the crew like family and we love working for them.
We get to know guests as good as we can
while maintaining our professionalism.
It’s always a fun relaxed atmosphere on the boat and part of cruising a charter.
How long have you been on the boat?
I’ve been about 5 1/2 years
I have heard that charters are all about the crew!
Happy Crew! Happy Guests!
We’ve got nearly a hundred years of experience between the four senior crew on board in yachting.
I was thinking about that the other day,
Not sure if that makes me feel old or experienced.
Seasoned!
But it’s a fact!
Seasoned! There ya go!
You have a history of hospitality
with two Atlantic crossings, two Pacific crossings
and cruising remote locations such as Palau, Micronesia and Hawaii.
How have your extensive travels changed your perspective as a yacht captain for your guests?
I started out chartering with Texas sports fishermen on the Barrier Reef in Cairns
some of the most fun, interesting people that I ever met.
Very very laid back program
Had to evolved from that to the Mediterranean high end charters
with people such as royalty, astronauts, rock stars and such.
What makes a good crew?
I would say experience and energy! The two number one factors!
Experience, you know, only comes with time on boarding in the industry and
learning how to service these 5 and 6 star services that we are offering
It only comes with experience
We traditionally range between 5- 10 day charters.
Our longest was 14 days.
7 -10 day charters work well for us.
Some of our highlights would be Nassau, Harbor Island, the Exuma’s.
Also the Exuma keys, we’d like to take the toys off through the shallow waters
and we like to kayak up creeks and streams and I have got all sorts of hikes figured out
and you’ll be chartering there from November to April
This November through Christmas/ New year, we will be available through Easter
Sounds like you guys have a lot of repeat guests.
What was the best compliment that you’ve received ?
Probably when a primary charter guests guests wife says,
“Can I take you and the crew home with me?”
“You guys are so wonderful, we want to keep you.”
What is the #1 hot tip for your guests?
For the Bahamas: pack lightly.
You don’t need all of that stuff.
Once you leave the lights of Atlantis and the slot machines
It will be just us, and the fish, and the birds, and the iguanas and the palm trees.
That is all you need.
And let captain Brad, who’s an amazing photographer, follow you and your guests around.
because his work is magnificent, just magnificent.
At the end of the charter, the last night, you gather everybody together and
you compose this beautiful video of all the photos and
they can relive their vacation right then and there.
Then they take it with them and
it’s like, Oh my gosh, wow!”
That’s a tradition we do on the last night.
It keeps me up late during the charter, I put all together.
On the last night we bring all crew and guests into the salon together.
We have a little party and a presentation.
I know you’re down in Florida so stay safe, I know you will.
We will.

covid compliant,

Welcome to Newport Living and Lifestyles
Travel Tuesdays
brought to you by B&B Yacht Charters, Inc.
with President and co-host Jennifer Saia.
Hi everyone! Social distancing! Check out my anchors !
Love it!
Today we’re going to feature
Motor Yacht CRU and Captain Nick Kincaid.
We’re so happy to have you on board
This is a 96 foot Westship and she’s been so popular in the Caribbean.
You’re in Florida now and headed to the Chesapeake.
I want you to tell us why we should actually charter with you and your crew this summer.
We are go getters, of course, we like to do a lot of activities keeping the kids busy.
Everyone on the boat has their own special talents.
We take a lot of pride in the crew that’s that’s on the boat, good to be a part of this team.
What are some of the activities and amenities that you guys offer on your boat?
We make sure that they get the best experience.
We tow a 33 foot Intrepid fully rigged for fishing.
It carries inflatable toys, we have wake boards.
Then when we get onto the big vessel CRU, we have two jet ski’s
We have three inflatable islands, we have four paddle boards
We also have a kayak that can seat either two adults or three kids.
Up on the upper deck, it’s a nice patio sun deck area where
you can grill out and lots of room to
congregate and and enjoy barbecue on a sunny day
We put together theme nights that’s a lot of fun!
Yes we love theme nights!
Give us a good story
Our Christmas charter is always a big one for theme night
Everyone dressed up as elves and
I dressed up as Santa and our charter guests were sitting there wake boarding.
We had one of them wearing a Santa costume and they loved it
I’ve seen the Murder Mystery or Pirates of the Caribbean.
Anything you can dream of, we can execute it.
What if there’s an inclement day?
Then you have the amenities inside. Everything you could ask for like Direct TV & internet
Then we also provide some fine dining on the interior with Alex Decara as our chef
The boat can still move and take people to shore in different areas.
We go up to Newport and all New England this season.
As soon as things open up then maybe go through a mansion tour
or fine restaurants that are here
even though we have the best one on board
but people like to get out a little bit.
You take people out to fish. Can they bring it back and eat what you catch?
oh absolutely
That’s how I started my career as a Captain.
I started out on fishing boats.
When we were down in the Caribbean.
We would take the guests fishing.
We’d catch a nice big wahoo or tuna and
I’d fillet it right there in front of them
and then Alex would have it cooked for lunch.
There’s been times where people wanted to eat out and
they had Alex’s cooking day one and
they just canceled all their reservations.
We get preference sheets on what they like to eat.
Alex will cater and change her whole plan
on how she’s going to execute meals.
based on their dietary requirements.
Custom Custom Custom. That’s really the theme of chartering.
What would people need to be prepared to bring for a yacht charter
as opposed to other vacations they may go on.
Everything that they’re really going to need, we have.
You’ve got toiletries, you’ve got blow dryers, you’ve got sunscreens,
Everything, All of that.
You’ve got towels, you’ve got incredible sheets and all your amenities
that you’ll expect at a five-star hotel.
How far can one go and back one a tank of gas (fuel)
On charter the longest leg we’ve done was maybe 100 miles but
we can go on one tank of gas 1200 miles
so people can see a lot!
Generally when we do trips we’ll go about 40 miles
We’d like to have a nice summer up here in Newport and
the islands right off the coast Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island
and have clients go between them by private yachts
Actually, I think this season instead of going traveling abroad or
places that you’re going to go with more people
you want to go on a smaller vacation where it’s low risk
It’s almost like one to one.
We’ve got 6 guests & 4 crew
This is an intimate experience.
Not for the masses and it’s still affordable.
What did you do down in St Martin while you were quarantining?
A lot of projects.
We’ve been improving everything,
making sure everything’s perfect.
We put our hearts into this boat.
They can reach you through
Jennifer Saia of B&B Yacht Charters, Inc.
and book anything, put anything together and
customize an amazing trip.
Yes, Absolutely
We are looking forward to the Chesapeake and
the New England itineraries and
then we will head back down south.
We look forward to seeing more of your trips and meeting your crew.
Thanks so much Jennifer for hosting Travel Tuesdays.
Nice to meet you Nick
Nice to meet you as well
We look forward to seeing you
on Newport Living and Lifestyles
Thanks everybody

Welcome to Newport Living and Lifestyles I’m Christon and we are here for the
second year in a row with Nancy Piffard from the Newport International Boat Show. Welcome
I know, it is our second year working together, thank you.
Give us the overview of the Boat Show and if there’s anything special and new this year.
Let’s see it’s our 49th year, so that’s pretty special, since next year is our 50th and
we are chock-full of new boats, power and sail, and you know
everything from cruisers to inflatable dinghies so we have everything you can
imagine, on the site, we open on September 12 and run through the 15th and come on down.
How many people usually attend the show?
I’s about 40,000 people that come in over the four days and that includes, you know, the exhibitors
who are coming from 20 countries are represented, and they bring all their
staff too, so when you add it all up it’s easily over 40,000.
That’s great, now that could be a problem for parking, but you guys have that all taken care of.
I mean it’s a great economic boost to the city of Newport and the State during that time.
We have a parking program at Easton’s Beach which is only
a mile and a half away and with your parking space which is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
you have free shuttle service right to the show site and back so that
really works well for people. To Park is $25 a day.
How much are tickets? so when they get there do they need of pre-purchase can they purchase onsight?
You can either you can do either pre purchasing is a convenience and there is
a bit of a little discount if you order in advance or you can just come right to
the gates, there’s a seven gates, 4 places selling tickets and they’re $22
day of, and they are $17 if you order in advance.
That’s great for whole families to come and spend the whole day, the whole weekend.
Yes and children under 12 are free any day of the show.
What kind of venues to do you have for the children to eat?
We have Wally’s hot dogs this year,
That’ll be great for kids and we have Pranzi’s Catering, we have
Flat Waves with tacos, so there’s a lot on sight. Not to mention we are
right in the heart of downtown and there’s restaurants on our site.
What are some of the show highlights this year?
I think we’re gonna be, hopefully doing a Facebook Live every morning, and
just kind of saying what’s going to be happening at the show that day
but if you can give us any secret behind the scenes tips.
Every day we have seminars that,
with a show wrist band they’re free, and we have Pam Wall who’s joining us from Florida.
She’s a world-renowned lifestyle cruising lifestyle expert and
she will be having seminars at the Seaman’s Church Library on everything
from cool products no one knows about to hurricane preparation import.
Her registrations are unbelievable right now so she’s very…
she has a following actually , she is great.
We have the “At The Helm – Confident Captain’s” at the helm
program and
I might sign up that! We just got a new Hinckley Picnic boat so
Perfect! so you could learn how to dock. There’s everything from
docking skills or learning how to sail or learning how to power boat and you can
register right at the show or in advance online and you’ll go out with a
experienced captain right out into the harbor.
It’s not just boats, I mean you can go and look for boats, all kinds of boats, but you can also go shopping.
Absolutely! I mean it’s a lifestyle and so you know you have
foul weather gear, you have nautical jewelry, you have fabric cushions for
your boat, if you already have one.
Anything nautical ! Anything boat related.
And all the toys that go with it!
Paddle boards and kayaks
Or if you need a new engine.
Or if you need a new engine, exactly!
There’s lots of those.
If you want to know about some of the specials that are happening at the show,
and any raffles that some of the booths are offering,
you can download the Buki app.
Yes,
You guys have partnered with LetsBuki.com
Yes!
That’s really fabulous.
It is and we’re really happy to have Buki on board and you can
you can prepare and plan for your visit to the show.
So you can know exactly where you want to go ahead of time, so that’s really great.
There’s wonderful sponsors
We will be doing samplings and we even have
an airplane that’s landing in the harbor.
WHAT?
pretty sure…
oh maybe we could work something out where I land with the airplane….
Thank you so much for the overview of the show. It’s going to be very exciting.
Thank you
There will be lots of people here and we look forward to seeing you on
Newport Living and Lifestyles
