Island Moving Company Summer Soiree

The 2022 ARTSCAPES Summer Soiree fundraiser event benefiting Island Moving Company – Newport’s Contemporary Dance Co was an unbelievably beautiful experience. Every turn a memorable site to behold. The performers prancing in every garden landscape at “The Bellevue House”. The front stage lounge seating for Randal and guests was the crowning moment which led to lots of laughs, dancing and a personal Chinese Dragon Dance performance.

A Special Thanks to Randal Poirier, ChFC, Financial Planner and his foundation “Doing Well by Doing Good” for participating as an important sponsor to IMC and their efforts to bring the arts and performances to Newport and supporting youth to carry on the arts in our community

2022 Yappy Hour at The Waves

Wow! This year’s Yappy Hour broke records for attendance and fundraising for the 20-year event. Guests gathered at ‘The Waves’ on Ledge Road where they met animals available for adoption at the Potter League and supported the organization’s work by joining in for a ‘Paw Raise’ to support the Nuala Pell Animal Care Fund.
The Nuala Pell Animal Care Fund ensures that homeless animals receive everything from basic care to treatment for serious medical issues. Thanks to these generous donors the thousands of animals that walk through our doors every day will continue to receive veterinary care, surgery, extensive rehabilitation, and life-saving medications often required before they can be placed in a loving home.
We cannot thank our generous hosts, Marc Lewinstein, Xana O’Neil, and the guest of honor Maalouf, who opened their home to fellow animal lovers enough. Their generosity, love and kindness for the Potter League and our animals is immensely appreciated.
We would also like to thank our Presenting Sponsor, Randal W. Poirier, ChFC, Financial Planner of Independence Financial Partners, our board of directors, our “Party Animals” committee, our volunteers & staff, and our in-kind sponsors Peak Event Services, Glorious Affairs Boutique Catering and Event Design, Wild Season Florals, Photography by Jessica Pohl, Lainey Dionne (musician), and Perfection Valet Parking for never-ending support and kindness.
We hope that you all had an incredible evening as we did. We were so grateful to be able to gather and see so many of our generous and wonderful friends. Thank you so much for making Yappy Hour a howling success!
P.S. More photos from Jessica Pohl to come!

Exclusive Pop, Fizz, Clink at the Vanderbilt Rooftop

Newport, RI. | July 4, 2022

Newport is known by many names; City by the Ocean, Sailing Capital of the World… but it is also home to some of the best kept summertime secrets in the Northeast.

Once again, Newport Living and Lifestyles opens the door on the best that Newport has to offer. A velvet rope gets set aside and you instantly have access to the Rooftop Bar atop The Vanderbilt Auberge Resort Hotel. Perched high on the hill that rises above the harbor in the Historic Hill neighborhood, this one-time mansion is now a luxe accommodation with a spa, library-lounge, a solarium patio for brunch and a cozy dark bar-restaurant where craft cocktails and the occasional secret are shared.

This night, the NL&L faithful gathered for drinks and small plates on the rooftop and Newport’s most epic harbor view. As the sun set over the bridge, cool breezes brought out the sweaters and shawls, but nothing could beat the warm glow of good friends, cocktails and fireworks.

Want to join the party?  Newport Living & Lifestyles and check out the NL&L Events Calendar , We hope you can join us for our next event

A Chat Lady Carnarvon of HighClere Castle the original Downton Abbey

The Preservation Society in newport Rhode Island organized a special visit with the Lady Fiona Carnarvon to give her history and accounts of her experience through the filming of Julian fellows HBO series  “Downton Abbey” . Every unique lunch, dinner and gala package offered by the Preservation Society SOLD OUT. Each offered a personalized conversation of the Highclere history, including past owners, what it is like to run a the 300 room estate, the creation of the sustainable farm to bring health back to animals and ultimately humans, the inspiration behind the award winning Highclere Castle Gin and much much more all documented here in this recording.

Lady Carnarvon was very down to earth in her tennis shoes and linen clothes. She was funny, witty and full of life. Some interesting take aways from her question and answer presentation below are that the Highclere tours are “an experience not a visit.”, “Highclere is about the bones not the stones” meaning they are people centric and want focus on making people happy and want them to fall in love with Highclere, The filming was a “fortunate, serendipitous collaboration” Highclere highlights then vs now photos

Learn about how many staff it takes to run Highclere then vs now and so much more:

June 9th 2022 In advance of her visit, Trudy Coxe and Lady Carnarvon discuss the joys and challenges of maintaining a 300-room castle with 1,200 years of history and more than 1,000 acres of landscape. The wife of Geordie, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon and the comparisons of running the preservation society estates and the Highclare Castle

Lady Carnarvon is the author of 5 books, If you are interested to peruse and purchase : https://www.ladycarnarvon.com/books/

Lady Carnarvon began her career as an author by writing the guidebook to Highclere and a guide to the Egyptian exhibition which transported visitors back to Ancient Egypt. Lady Carnarvon has written two historical books, “Lady Almina”, a New York Times Bestseller, which covers First World War when Highclere was actually a hospital and “Lady Catherine” which looks at the twenties and thirties and the Second World War through the real inhabitants, both upstairs and downstairs. These contain fascinating comparisons and similarities with “Downton Abbey”. Her last bestseller, “At Home at Highclere,” is a coffee table book which documents an insight into life at Highclere Castle. Food is a key theme throughout the book, having played an important social role in the lives of the Earls of Carnarvon bringing people together, and Lady Carnarvon includes some favourite recipes from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day.

Her latest book, “Christmas at Highclere: Recipes and Traditions from the Real Downton Abbey” takes you behind the scenes and share the history and the rituals that make my home – Highclere Castle – the most magical place to be throughout the festive season. – website
