Newport Classical: Empire Wild

Newport Classical presents Empire Wild as part of their spring Community Concerts. Empire Wild brings a genre-bending musical experience to Newport Craft Brewing, where audiences can purchase beer and bites during the performance. Empire Wild channels their love for musical exploration into their sound, fusing pop, folk, jazz, and more. In this program, the group puts its own spin on music by composers whose work has endured the test of time. Hear classics by Beethoven, Ravel, Bach, and more brought to new life in the trio’s unique arrangements. This is a free concert – fun for listeners of all ages.

These free concerts are generously presented as part of the BankNewport Community Concerts Series with additional support from the NewportFed Charitable Foundation, RISCA, and a Rhode Island Foundation Community Grant. Newport Classical is a premier performing arts organization that welcomes people of every age, culture, and background to intimate, immersive musical experiences. The organization presents world-renowned and up-and-coming artistic talents at stunning, storied venues across Newport, an internationally sought-after cultural and recreational destination.

Block Party: a 6-week dance series for “non-dancers”

Have you ever been out on the town, or at an event, when your favorite song comes on and you just…freeze? Maybe you look longingly at the dance floor and wish you had the confidence to go out there and get down to good music without anyone judging you for how you move. This 6 week series of dance classes are designed to help the average person feel confident on the dance floor – wherever that may be! We’ll discover how much our bodies already know and how to apply that knowledge in an intentional way to move rhythmically to music, while also learning specific tools and skills that help our bodies move in new ways. Best of all, we will have FUN.

Your teacher, Olivia Burnham, has a Masters in Dance Anthropology and has spent her life teaching self-proclaimed “non-dancers” how to access joy through movement. She currently works with couples on their wedding dances, and is now bringing that same ethos to the masses. Come to these classes as you are, and leave with a feeling of infinite potential!

A Night by the Narragansett

A  Night by the Narragansett will benefit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.

Guests will gather under the tent on The Point at Safe Harbor – New England Boatworks on the shores of Narragansett Bay for lawn games, cocktails, delicious fare from McGrath’s Clambakes & Catering, and dancing to high energy World Premier Band, the band that performed at last year’s Centennial Celebration.

All proceeds from the evening will support the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s hunger relief, education and community programs. Last year, the Center served 5,670 people, the most in its history. Founded in 1922 and renamed after Dr. King in 1922, the MLK Community Center fights hunger, promotes health, educates young and school-aged kids, supports families, and engages seniors in Newport County. The MLK builds community.
